The antenna is constructed in two sections; A one piece whip and a base mount. The whip threads onto the base section to form the complete assembly. The whip portion is constructed of resin impregnated fiberglass cloth to create a light weight yet durable whip antenna. The base mount is equiped with a rugged spring which is used for absorbing impact on the whip and allowing the whip to be tied down horizontally.

A feed-through cable runs from the base to the top aluminum flange of the antenna so that another antenna type can be mounted on the top flange. The two antenna channels are high power, balanced dipoles, each capable of handling power levels of up to 1 KW average. The isolation between the two channels is more than 25 dB. Each input channel's VSWR is less than 3.0:1 with an average VSWR of 2.5:1 over the entire 225 to 400 MHz frequency range. The antenna has been designed and tested to meet the vibration requirements of MIL-STD-167, type I and II, shock requirements of MIL-S-901, and the environmental requirements of MIL-E-16400H.
