The Valcom compact fan antenna is designed for ship and land applications where space may be lmiited. The VC-NVIS-SL, with its fan loop structure, is optimized for near vertical incident skywave (NVIS) transmissions.

The compact fan antenna gives maximum radiation at nearly a 90 degree angle, which can be used for communications at distances between 0 and 1000 KM (620 miles). The VC-NVIS-SL consists of an aluminum mounting/counterpoise frame and a compact aluminum radiating element. The radiating element contains an integral loading reactance and lightning protection.

The antenna can be purchased with or without an automatic tuner. The optional tuner provides the capability to tune the antenna between 3 MHz and 18 MHz with a VSWR of less than 2.0:1 in only 2 to 3 seconds.
